The pub was originally two farm labourers cottages. They were brought by Charlie Bowyer and family who were builders by trade and they converted the two cottages into one. The family built a lot of houses in the area including the one next door to the pub, called the Poplar Cottage. In the 1970's the family decided they wanted to run a pub and converted their home into the Poplar Farm inn.
