Crossways is a hamlet in Dorset lying within the West Dorset district. It is 6 miles east of the county town Dorchester with a population of approximately 3,300.
In the early 1930s the Air Ministry acquired local heath and farmland to build an airfield which was in 1937 and known briefly as RAF Woodsford, although it was renamed RAF Warmwell a year later. Built on land once owned by Henry VIII who gave it to the Earl of Ilchester, the surrounding farmlands are still owned by the Ilchester Estates. The Sun Inn is a 17th Century pub, which doubled as the blacksmiths at various times in the past. It is set in lovely Dorset countryside less than a mile from Dorchester on the Old Sherborne Road at Lower Burton.
The Thimble Inn is an historic West Dorset pub and restaurant, renowned for it's walm welcome, and outstanding food. Having recently undrgone a full refurbishment, the stunning interior boasts antique furniture, sandstone and oak floors and even a a glass covered indoor well. On the outside the quaint thatched roof frames a chocolate box building, with streams flowing though the extensive grounds & gardens.
