The Purple Pub opened it's doors on April 15,1972 as a one room bar holding a mere 8 bar stools and a few tables. There was a juke box, a pool table and a dart board; and at that time, the only menu items were an assortment of sandwiches: including turkey, roast beef and ham.
After months of hard work by owners Bob and Greg Rentz, along with their parents Libby and Charlie Rentz; the first of three dining rooms was opened.
From her extensive recipe collection Libby began whipping up items to add to the menu to accommodate the ever increasing clientele. What started as a few Italian dishes, using her very own sauce recipe, turned into a vast menu of Italian food and award winning pizza.
Progress continued for the next few years and the Purple Pub now has three dining rooms and seats approximately 150 customers at one time.
Italian dishes are still a favorite at the Purple Pub; but, the menu has expanded to include a variety of items. Award winning Buffalo Wings, fresh salads, steaks and seafood, and both hot and cold sandwiches round out the menu. But the one staple that keeps everyone coming back for more is the Pizza. From Libby's original sauce recipe came an item that has transcended generations.
"After 40 years we are now seeing our past customer's children and grandchildren, and their families dining with us" say the owners; "It's nice to know that our family restaurant is also our neighbor's family restaurant."
