While playing for the Redskins, Curtis opened several successful restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area and knew that this was to be his career after his playing days were over. In 1992, Curtis 'came home' to Lubbock and continued in the restaurant business opening the old Whaler's Bay and in 1999, he opened Cujo's Sports Bar & Grill.
