Real English ale brewed in Navarrenx

Shakespeare Brasserie

Shakespeare Brasserie is a new brewery producing English bottle-conditioned Real Ale, brewed using authentic ingredients here in the Béarn.
All of the beers are brewed using English malted barley, hops and yeast and are hand-made without any additives or chemicals.
The beers are made in the traditional way that has remained unchanged for centuries. Malted barley is steeped in hot water, rinsed then boiled.
Hops are added before being cooled, then fermented by adding yeast. The beer is then bottled and undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle.
Once it has been conditioned it is ready to drink, usually after four weeks.

Initially there will be three beers in production:
'King Lear', an 'India Pale Ale with a light amber colour, a subtle malt flavour and a nutty finish. 4.5% abv. 'Three Witches', a bitter ale with a full malt flavour, a deep dry finish and a good hop character. 5.1% abv. 'Damned Spot', a black, rich and creamy stout with a roast and malty start. A bitter finish with hints of chocolate. 5.5% abv. All available in 50 cl. bottles.
Seasonal beers will be brewed throughout the year such as lighter, low alcohol beer during the summer months and heavier, richer ales over the winter. Also one-off, limited edition beers for special occasions.
