In September 1982, Mel's Diner opened on South First Street in Yakima. It was decided that it would be a restaurant where people could come and be welcomed like family and be served fresh, homestyle meals at prices they could afford.
Within one year the little restaurant that sat only 30 people and had a crew of only 5 employees, had grown to our present location which seats 160 people with a crew of over 40 employees.
In June 1989, I joined the crew as General Manager. In January 2001, I was given the opportunity to buy Mel's Diner. The goal of this restaurant has always been the same.
We still use only lean ground beef for hamburgers. Milk shakes are still made with real ice cream and soups are homemade daily. We use shortening in our fryers that is 100% cholesterol free, and we use only soybean oil in our hashbrowns. Lastly, we have a water purifying filter system for all our drinking water.
But most important you, our customer, are still the most important person in this restaurant. We realize that our existence depends on pleasing you, our customer, and we will make every effort to do so. We are open 24 hours a day to take care of your needs.
Thank you for coming to our restaurant.
