The Lysander Arms is built on what was once the Clifton Aerodrome, where No. 4 Squadron were the main residents. The squadron was equipped with the Lysander aircraft until 1942.
The Lysander's were employed in cooperation with army ground forces to carry out reconnaissance work as well as artillery spotting, they were also to patrol in case of invasion and to drop mustard gas.
Times have changed over the years and the Lysander arms is now a freehouse and independently owned pub & restaurant, serving fresh locally sourced british food, quality traditional handpulled ales, fine wines and good old Yorkshire hospitality.
