In 1988, Jamey Loftin and Hughes Lowrance decided to open a tiny general store and deli in Athens, Georgia and they called it Locos Deli and General Store. They sold sandwiches, milk, toilet paper and other basic needs of college students and delivered them to the residents and students around the University of Georgia.
Nearly 20 years later Locos is a thriving concept with a new name, Locos Grill & Pub, and has grown to more than twenty locations throughout the Southeast. Anyone who meets Jamey and Hughes, or dines at any Locos location, seems to be amazed that it all started as simply a great hangout for a good group of friends. The original general store still sits on top of the hill on Oconee Street, but it is now another establishment. The restaurant that once stood there was moved to a location nearer to the UGA campus.
Locos enjoyed continued success for the next 15 years as Locos Deli & Pub. In October of 1997, the first franchise store opened in Gainesville, Georgia. Since then, additional franchises have been added in areas such as Macon, Statesboro, Savannah, St. Simons, Valdosta, Auburn and Birmingham, Alabama, and the suburbs in and around Atlanta.
As the concept began to expand, so did the menu, which began to incorporate more and more items prepared on the grill. After much consideration, and after more than a decade with the name Locos Deli & Pub, a monumental decision was made to change the name to Locos Grill & Pub. Having "Grill" in the name better explains what kind of food Locos serves, the kind of atmosphere Locos provides, and what kind of dining experience our guests can expect.
No matter what you call it, Locos is still a great hangout for friends, and while they no longer sell the general store items, the menu has grown to include appetizers, salads, specialty sandwiches, wings, grilled burgers and entrees, and a variety of delicious desserts. There is truly something for everyone and every occasion on the menu at Locos.
