The original Jake’s building located on the corner of 17th street and North Avenue in Milwaukee has stood for well over 100 years. It first operated as a butcher shop that opened around 1903, (the exact date is lost to history) and thrived for many years in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood on Milwaukee’s north side. In 1955, Jake Levin bought the deli from Ruben Cohen and it officially became Jake’s. He operated the business until his retirement in 1969, when Bud Selig and partners purchased the establishment to keep the already famous delicatessen open and thriving. In 2016, Jake's continues as a Milwaukee tradition operating with Stand Eat Drink Hospitality Group.
