“Le Chéile.” It’s a Gaelic phrase that has no English language equivalent, but the feeling is universal. Literally it means “together.” We like that. Yet in Irish culture you’ll find an even richer usage “le chéile” expanding into realms of filial unity, communal strength, spiritual wholeness and, at its core, a catch-all for the basic bond of being alive that we all share with each other. In this way, Le Chéile – set against stunning views of the George Washington Bridge, nestled off the hillside green banks of the Hudson River — offers you the simplest values of its meaning. A place to meet friends and neighbors, to eat excellent food freshly prepared, to drink merrily from our twelve choice beers on tap, select wines and wide assembly of spirits, to surprise and delight in our daily specials, to enjoy coffee made right every time and to relax, unhurried for our family-style Sunday Supper. But with everything we do and with whatever Le Chéile is, we will never be foolish enough to believe it’s ours. It’s yours. We know that. This spot — ”181st and Cabrini” — always belonged to you. Just like it belonged to the Lenni Lenape, and then came the Dutch, and then the Irish, an then German-Austrian Jews, and then Russians, and then Dominicans and Mexicans and now you — whoever you may be. Come eat. Come drink. Come gather. Come talk. Hang your art. Play your music. Do your business. Enjoy your family. Most important, come as you are. Le Chéile!
